‘FLOOD 2′ (Bullfrog) - so close, yet so far… - May 3, 2009
1992 Bullfrog
ST, Amiga, PC, SNES, Mega Drive
Code - Paul (Paulie) Hughes
Graphics - Mark R Jones
Music - N/A
Ah "Flood", the memories had with this awesome Amiga game back in the day. With it’s groundbreaking speech effects throughout, Flood proved to be a huge hit on the ST/Amiga back in 1990, and so it was inevitable that a sequel would follow. This time the main character, Quiffy, would also look to make an appearance on 16-bit consoles which were starting to take a hold on the gaming public alongside home computers.
The game was being developed by non other than ex-Ocean coder Paul Hughes with graphics by Mark R Jones (Who also worked at Ocean).
Flood 2 promised more of the same of the first game, with a multitude of additional features and bits to improve further on the original (Which sadly and undeservidly never had the full spotlight treatment on its original release).

1993 Virgin Games

Well, if you’ve been following the GTW Youtube channel we have, you probably have seen the clips to this already. You’ve probably even already got the roms (you naughty people!) and played it yourself. It’s about time we said a little something therefore on the game.

add a commentGTW Review - Bubble Bobble (Mobile) - September 1, 2007
200? Pieland / Taito
Mobile Platform
Just a brief review to show you an unseen glimpse of a rather nifty Bubble Bobble conversion which never was on the Mobile platform.
Mobile gaming is now big business, and just as with old consoles and computers, the platform also see’s its fair share of scrapped titles.
Bubble Bobble was very ironically being developed by Ste Ruddy, the very same developer who did the fantastic C64 conversion 20 years ago. Infact, a fair bit of the game’s code has actually been borrowed from the C64 source code, including the airflow and baddie data from the game.

1999 Studio 3 / Thalamus Interactive
Gameboy Colour
A wonderful idea and game which originally started out with the name of ‘Silly Putty’ and later was renamed to just ‘Putty’. ‘Putty Squad’ was the next game in line. Putty is a blue blob that can mould into various different shapes, stretching, bouncing around platforms and absorbing strange creatures in his path in an attempt to defeat the evil ‘Dazzledaze’.
Putty Squad on the CGB
Putty started out on the Amiga and featured jaw-dropping graphics and animations when first hitting screens back in 1991. With strong playability combined with excellent humour throughout, Putty was successful and was unsurprisingly ported to other platforms including the SNES. The Colour Gameboy version was to follow much later…

Super Nintendo
1994 Trimark Interactive / Software Creations
MotoX title screen
You’ll find that many times there are games fully completed, but never let out of the doors. Back in 1994, Moto-X was one such casualty for the SNES - although completed, was sadly canned and kept away from the public eye.
Often this happens when a game is particularly poor (Well, sometimes!), but there doesn’t seem to be too much wrong with this intriguing title.

Year/Company: 1992 Atari
Format: Atari 7800
Klax never quite reached the heights of Tetris in popularity stakes, but it did entertain for a good few years for many. Think Columns, mix a bit of Tetris and out pops Klax! (who thought up that name??)

Year/Company: 1984 Ultimate - Play The Game
Format: BBC Micro
Generally if we talk of unreleased games and Ultimate, instantly we think back to the infamous "Mire Mare" game which has haunted game lovers for many years. Instead of finding the Holy Grail of games, we have done with the discoveries of Solar Jetman and Lunar Jetman on the C64.
And adding to the list which doesn’t contain "Mire Mare", yet another lost Ultimate game has been found out of the blue and totally shocking one or two Ultimate fans… Cookie on the BBC Micro.

Year/Company: 2000 Thalamus Interactive
Format: Gameboy Colour
With the amount of sequels emerging today after many years of the original being in the wilderness, it’s a wonder why no one has touched this classic Core title from the days long before the money spinning Lara Croft came onto the scene.
With its humorous and tricky Indiana Jones style traps and puzzles, the game was an early hit for Core, and even spawned a popular sequel a year later.

2 commentsGTW review - ‘AMC ‘89’ - August 31, 2006
Year/Company: 1989 Llamasoft
Format: Konix Multi-System
A "technical marvel" was one way of describing the sadly doomed Konix Multi-System, however it looked ever so slightly dodgy in the design stakes with its weird controllers and layout. However, Konix attracted a range of top developers to develop for the machine ranging from Ocean, System 3 and Llamasoft. Llamasoft in particular had a rather stunning title in development…
