add a comment‘R-Type V1′ extra level found - May 9, 2009
As well as a quick update to the Giana 2 entry on GTW64, Jazzcat has helped to uncover another level of the incomplete and unreleased version of R-Type on the Commodore 64.
If you are not already aware, R-Type was originally in production on the C64 by another team for a very long period of time - a bit too long for Activision’s liking. So it was scrapped and the team by the banned "Katakis" title was brought in to do a 6 week job based on their Katakis engine (Which borrowed a bit from R-Type in general).
The original game however was shaping up very nice, and given a bit more time to complete it… it could have been a rather solid effort. For years we only ever saw a 1 level preview from C&VG, but recently all the levels recovered. Check out the full story here.

add a comment‘INFECTION’ (C64) Full game found! - May 7, 2009
GTW64 has just recovered the full unreleased game "Infection" from the game’s coder Craig Galley for the Commodore 64. Originally intended as a 1989 budget release by Virgin Mastertronic. This game eventually turned into "7Up Spot", but the original is arguably a lot better.
The additional bonus is the previously unheard David Whittaker tune on the title screen! Enjoy!

add a commentSimon Cooke and the Sam Coupe - May 6, 2009
Simon Cooke’s biography on Wikipedia doesn’t pay enough justice to his role within Sam Coupe scene. His unreleased contributions include Populous(incomplete), Bubble Bobble (unattainable license, 1991), Zub (unfinished, but screenshots exist).
Unrelated to Sam Coupe but of great importance is that he worked on a finished cool-looking (at least judging from shots) Prince of Persia conversion to Spectrum that got scrapped due to licence issues, this is a different one from the russian adaptation made later by another team.

add a comment‘Starglider 2′ (C64) - May 5, 2009
Some great news!… Coming soon to GTW64 will be a bit of a shock … a complete version of "Starglider 2".

You may recall the demo version which sits in the archives, but confirmation comes that it was actually completed and the sources have already been backed up. There is a potential unseen Bob Stevenson picture to go with it, and also potentially a filled vector build of the game (Albeit a bit choppy). More details coming soon - but exciting times ahead

1 comment so far‘FLOOD 2′ (Bullfrog) - so close, yet so far… - May 3, 2009
1992 Bullfrog
ST, Amiga, PC, SNES, Mega Drive
Code - Paul (Paulie) Hughes
Graphics - Mark R Jones
Music - N/A
Ah "Flood", the memories had with this awesome Amiga game back in the day. With it’s groundbreaking speech effects throughout, Flood proved to be a huge hit on the ST/Amiga back in 1990, and so it was inevitable that a sequel would follow. This time the main character, Quiffy, would also look to make an appearance on 16-bit consoles which were starting to take a hold on the gaming public alongside home computers.
The game was being developed by non other than ex-Ocean coder Paul Hughes with graphics by Mark R Jones (Who also worked at Ocean).
Flood 2 promised more of the same of the first game, with a multitude of additional features and bits to improve further on the original (Which sadly and undeservidly never had the full spotlight treatment on its original release).
