“It Came From The Desert” (Sega Genesis) - January 31, 2009

Brandon Cobb has written a fantastic very in-depth and detailed article about the unreleased Sega Genesis game, "It Came From The Desert", with the full story of the game from conception to cancellation straight from its designer / developer, Matt Harmon.  This is an excellent read and worth checking out … Click here to read it.

It came from the desert

As you will learn from the article, this is a very different game to the Amiga original.  As an extra bonus, the Genesis prototype is also available to download from Cinemaware’s official site - fantastic stuff!

3DO M2 “Dolphin Demo” footage - January 29, 2009

Thanks to bitrate, who recently got his hands on a playable version of the M2 Dolphin demo, you can now watch some great footage of it on YouTube:

Even though this was just a tech demo to showcase some of the M2’s features, it looks very game-like and would have made a nice Ecco game or something similar.

IMEC Design games on Atari ST - January 23, 2009

All we know about IMEC Design is that they produced what we see in these screenshots. We can safely assume that there was the duo J. Lewis and J. Wood behind the name and that most of the games you’re about to see were developed around 1990.

If they are half as hot to play as they look, then it’s worth keeping hunting for them!

First off we have the cute looking Junk Buster

Graphic Assets for Turrican 3 PC found - January 17, 2009

The PC version of Turrican 3 is still a big mystery to us, despite the fact that we spent lots of time talking to many people from Brain Bug (who were partly involved) and Rainbow Arts. Even though we still don’t know who did the coding, how complete it was, or why and when it got cancelled, we were finally able to get our hands on the graphics files that Brain Bug created for the PC conversion.

Similar to the PC version of Turrican II, the graphics for Turrican 3 were greatly updated to use 256 colors as well. And the results are stunning! So let us publish a small selection of enemy graphics, hoping to get some attention by someone who worked on the game and who can tell us more.

3DO M2 Photo Gallery - January 16, 2009

A small photo gallery has been added to the GTW3DO website showing actual 3DO M2 hardware and software:

This will hopefully grow into a virtual museum in the near future. We still have quite a few items lying around which are not photographed yet, so expect more photos soon. (but not too soon ;) )

 Moon Child

For the first update of 2009 aGTW takes a look at some of unreleased (and released) games from Softeyes/Team Hoi:

Ragnov is a late 80s multi-player maze exploration game.

Hawkwind is the former name for Venom Wing (which was released).

Hoi & Hoi Remix AGA is a platformer that WAS released but is covered in aGTW for reasons covered in the entry!

Moon Child AGA is a sort of sequel to Hoi with the same type of colourful platform action.
