“Impossible Mission 2025″ on Megadrive/SNES - November 29, 2008

It’s thanks to the interview from Epyx Shrine with Stuart Whyte, former producer of the classic Amiga/CD32 title "Impossible Mission 2025", that we get to learn about some unreleased ports of the late sequel to the Megadrive and SNES.

Tim Cannell and Paul Dunning had reportedly finished the game (without help from Epyx that had lost all the sources in an earthquake (!!)) and even included the original C64 edition as a bonus ingame. Sadly, Microprose ran out of cash before it could be shipped to the market, which is a huge shame as all in all "Impossible Mission 2025" proved faithful to the original…

The additional thing we learn from the same source is that Microprose developed yet another GTW on the SNES/Megadrive by the name of "Tinhead". Maybe one to feature on here soon…

Quick link - Atari Lynx lost games - November 29, 2008

A quick post, but this Atari Lynx FAQ (last updated on May 2000) in one of its sections it provides names of announced games that didn’t reach shops you may have craved, such as Cabal, Demolition Derby, Eye of the Beholder and more.

Worth taking a look to see what was meant to be!

‘Gamma Strike’ salvaged! - November 17, 2008

Great news, but thanks to the game’s author Simon Phillips, we have managed to preserve possibly one of the only copies and packages of the obscure ‘Gamma Strike‘ game set on the Commodore 64.

What is particularly interesting about this finding is the use of the two guns which shoot plastic pellets, and of which probably caused the downfall of the package and its very limited release.

Now, it is pretty hard to fully preserve this title because of the hardware packaged with it, but by time of the Christmas update we should have a semi-playable download version of the 3 games that you can check out.  Also with this will be various high quality photos/scans of the hardware, box and technical details of how the target and gun worked (So maybe you could rebuild the thing! ;) ) to completely preserve this wonderful obscurity.

Look out for the Christmas update of GTW64 for the full story and all the findings, but for now check out the current entry in GTW 64.

Bioforge Plus intro on YouTube - November 12, 2008

Former employee of Origin Systems, Jeff Morris, informed us today that he captured and uploaded the introduction cinematic of Origin’s unreleased PC game "Bioforge Plus" (an extended version of the original game) to YouTube. It’s the first time that we see actual footage from the game, and who knows, maybe we’ll get to see more of it in the future.

Go there to watch the video:

And while we’re talking about YouTube updates already, we have added a new video of IMSA Racing for 3DO M2 to our YouTube Channel. This time it’s the intro (another intro, what a coincidence ;-) ).

Lost in a “Midi Maze”? - November 5, 2008

Here we’re talking about one of (if not the very) first multiplayer FPS games. Perhaps it was due to technical difficulties, but besides the well known Atari ST and Gameboy/SNES releases (the latter under the name of "Faceball 2000") - many other platforms lost out on their conversion.

Midi Maze - http://www.atariprotos.com/

First to miss conversion boat was the Atari 8 bit edition.  Lacking the built-in MIDI port of ST, it used several tricks to exploit MidiMate and a couple modem models.

DOS and Windows prototypes followed but halted lacking funds. GameGear port was only made available in Japan (so technically it isn’t a GTW!) whilst Virtua Boy version saw its development die with the demise of console itself. Let’s hope they can be rescued from the maze any time soon!
